Joseph Mallord William Turner

Joseph Mallord William Turner (c. 23 April 1775 – 19 December 1851) was an English Romantic landscape painter, widely regarded as one of the greatest masters of the genre and a precursor of Impressionism. Over a career spanning more than 60 years, he produced over 2,000 works, including about 550 oil paintings and thousands of watercolours and drawings. His art is characterized by luminous atmospheric effects, intense colour and an increasing dissolution of form. Turner died at age 76, relatively wealthy thanks to late success. During his lifetime he was very famous and sold many works to prestigious collectors. (source: Wikipedia)
