Georges Seurat
Georges Seurat (2 December 1859 – 29 March 1891) was a French painter and draftsman, founder of Neo-Impressionism and inventor of the divisionist (pointillist) technique. In a very short career of about ten years, he produced around 60 major paintings and several hundred drawings and sketches. His work is characterized by the systematic application of tiny dots of pure colour placed side by side to mix optically in the viewer’s eye. Seurat died suddenly at age 31, probably from an infectious illness. During his lifetime he sold only a few paintings and received very limited recognition. (source: Wikipedia)
