The Limbourg Brothers
Paul, Jean and Herman de Limbourg (active c. 1400–1416) were three Dutch brothers and illuminators working principally for the Duke of Berry. They are best known for their masterpiece the Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry, one of the most famous illuminated manuscripts in Western art history. Their style combines acute naturalism in details, luminous landscapes and the refined elegance of the International Gothic. All three brothers died almost simultaneously in 1416 (likely from plague), while still young and at the height of their powers. During their lifetime their work was created exclusively for a very small circle of princely patrons. (source: Wikipedia)
