August Macke
August Robert Ludwig Macke (3 January 1887 – 26 September 1914) was a German Expressionist painter and one of the founding members of Der Blaue Reiter group. In just seven years of intense artistic activity, he produced around 600 works, mainly oil paintings, watercolours and drawings. His oeuvre is characterized by brilliant colours, luminous light and simplified forms, influenced by Fauvism, Cubism and Islamic decorative art. Macke died at age 27 on the Western Front during the First World War, shortly after reaching a remarkable stylistic maturity. During his lifetime he sold very few paintings and received only limited recognition. (source: Wikipedia)
